We asked Francesca to share the philosophies, turning points, and product heroes that have shaped Mi Skn’s success.
Q. Mi Skn has such a distinctive philosophy around skin health. When you think back to the early days, what guided the way you shaped your client experience and the kind of results you wanted to be known for?
A. Mi Skn Clinic started 15yrs ago with one TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practitioner offering aesthetic acupuncture. I identified a big gap between beauty and dermatology, a space that was ready for holistic medicine to be applied to skin health. I wanted to create a safe place, gender neutral, where everyone felt welcome. The universe had a clear path for me and started sending me clients struggling with acne, people who had "tried everything" and were ready for a holistic approach. It was a steep learning curve; my clinic's path was now dermatology, not aesthetics. As we grew, shifted, and adjusted, I always wanted to be known for our professionalism, honesty and a supportive, safe culture.
Q. You’ve become one of our leading Advanced Nutrition Programme™ stockists in Australia. What first drew you to incorporating internal nutrition into your protocols, and what helped it become such an essential part of your approach?
A. As a Dr of Traditional Chinese Medicine I always stood by the knowledge that all skin concerns are rooted in health. If skin conditions are not just surface deep, then it makes sense to treat the inside too. In the early stages, asking my clients to take herbs or nutritional supplements was tough; it took a lot of education. But as the years passed, there was a massive shift in aesthetics towards recognising the need for internal support to improve skin. Choosing Advanced Nutrition Programme was essential in building trust. It is a skin-specific supplement, backed by clinical studies and proven results - this makes it stand out from pharmacy supplements and is a point of difference that clients understand.
Q. Are there one or two Advanced Nutrition Programme™ products that have become “non-negotiables” in your clinic, either for your team personally or for achieving consistent client results? What makes them stand out?
A. Clear Skin Biome and Skin Omegas are our go-to. Every inflammatory skin condition we see has an element of skin barrier and gut biome impairment. Probiotics and essential fatty acids are a must when rebuilding a skin barrier. Q. Every clinic has a transformation that stays with them. Is there a client journey where internal support played a meaningful role, something that really confirmed the power of combining topical, in-clinic, and nutritional approaches?
A. There are far too many to mention or recall. Almost every client that we have managed in the last 15 yrs has had an internal-external approach in their treatment protocol. I truly believe you can't have one without the other. I have had clients referred to me by naturopaths who "had done all they could"; the person's health had greatly improved, but their skin wasn't changing - we added dermal treatments and everything slotted into place. The same is true for clients working with other aesthetic clinics, we add the personalised internal support, and we see their skin change.
