38 Years, 16 Diplomas and Still Learning: Meet Kandis of Skin Beautiful

Stockist Spotlight: Skin Beautiful

After 38 years in the beauty industry, Kandis is still studying.

Sixteen diplomas into her career, the owner of Skin Beautiful remains as curious about skin and education as she was when she began. Her approach to business brings together two things that have shaped the salon over the years: continually learning what is new while knowing her clients personally.

In this Stockist Spotlight, Kandis shares how she has built Skin Beautiful around long-term client relationships, a close-knit team and an appetite for learning that shows no sign of slowing down.

How would you describe Skin Beautiful today, including what you offer, who you serve and what makes the business distinct?

Every client who walks through my door is more than just a customer. I know each client on a first-name basis. We pride ourselves on providing genuine one-on-one time, ensuring every client feels heard, valued and receives a personalised experience.

Wherever possible, we ensure our clients remain with the same therapist throughout their journey. This allows us to build trust, understand their individual needs and create a consistent experience every time they visit.

We also make ourselves contactable by mobile at all times, giving our clients the reassurance that they can reach us when they need us. For us, it’s about providing a level of personal care and accessibility that goes beyond the treatment itself.

At the same time, we are committed to keeping our salon modern and at the forefront of the industry. By continually investing in new equipment and technology, we can offer our clients the latest treatments and innovations while never losing the personal connection that makes our salon special.

What inspired you to start Skin Beautiful, and what did you feel was missing in the market at the time?

Building genuine, long-term relationships with my clients has always been at the heart of my salon.

At the same time, I’ve always wanted my salon to be current, innovative and at the forefront of the industry. My goal has been to continually invest in the business by purchasing at least one new piece of equipment each year, allowing me to introduce new technology, services and experiences while continuing to provide the personal connection my clients value.

For me, it’s about finding the perfect balance between the personal touch of a salon where everyone knows your name and a modern, forward-thinking environment that keeps evolving with the industry.

How do you lead your team and build a culture that supports a consistent client experience?

Communication is a huge part of our team environment. We believe in sharing our knowledge, supporting one another and continuing to learn together. When one person learns something new, we all benefit from that knowledge.

We have created a team that feels more like a family, with everyone working towards the same goals for the business. We all share the same commitment to treating and servicing our clients with the same level of care, professionalism and personal attention.

It is important to us that our clients receive a consistent experience, no matter which therapist they see. We communicate openly as a team, share information about our clients and support each other so that everyone understands the standards and values we stand for.

For us, teamwork is about more than working alongside each other. It is about sharing the same passion, supporting each other and working together to give every client the experience and results they deserve.

Which systems, processes or everyday habits help you maintain a high standard of service when the clinic becomes busier?

We are true team players. We support each other, share the pressure and step in whenever someone needs a helping hand. We believe that no one should feel like they are carrying the workload alone.

We make a point of reading the appointment book and staying aware of what is happening across the salon. This allows us to anticipate each other’s needs and ensure we have systems in place to support every therapist throughout their day.

For us, good systems create a calmer, more organised and supportive workplace. When our therapists feel supported, valued and happy, it flows through to everything we do.

We truly believe that a happy therapist makes life so much easier for the team, the business and, most importantly, our clients. When our team is happy and working together, our clients feel that positive energy the moment they walk through the door.

What are you most proud of beyond the business’s sales performance?

Being invited to speak at skin forums about our approach to supporting clients with concerns such as problematic skin and red-looking skin has been an incredibly rewarding part of my career. Being able to share the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years with other therapists is something I am very proud of.

After 38 years in the industry, I still have the same passion for skin that I had when I started as an 18-year-old. If anything, my curiosity and love for the industry have only grown stronger.

Sixteen diplomas later, I am still studying, still learning and still fascinated by the science behind the skin and how we can support it. I believe that no matter how many years you have been in this industry, there is always something new to learn.

For me, skin is not just a career. It is a lifelong passion. The science, the education, the continual evolution of treatments and, most importantly, seeing the confidence that healthy skin can give a client are what keep me inspired after all these years.

“No matter how many years you have been in this industry, there is always something new to learn.”

Kandis, Skin Beautiful

What is the focus for the next chapter of Skin Beautiful?

Our passion is helping clients who struggle with skin concerns such as problematic skin and red-looking skin. These concerns can have a significant impact on a person’s confidence, which is why we are committed to continually updating our knowledge and education in these areas.

We believe our role is not only to treat the skin, but also to educate our clients and help them understand what is happening beneath the surface. We want our clients to make informed decisions about their skin and understand that there is no single quick fix.

We also believe in educating our clients that cosmetic injectables are not the only answer to ageing or looking after your skin. While these treatments may have their place, we are passionate about showing our clients that healthy, well-cared-for skin should always be the foundation.

For us, it is about looking at the skin as a whole, understanding the science behind it and creating a long-term approach that helps our clients achieve healthier skin and feel confident in themselves.

Still curious after 38 years

Thirty-eight years into her career, Kandis's enthusiasm for learning still sits at the centre of the Skin Beautiful story.

Her experience has grown alongside sixteen diplomas, continued study, investment in new technology and a team culture built around sharing knowledge. Through it all, the client relationship remains deeply personal.

It is a combination that continues to shape Skin Beautiful: experience, curiosity and the willingness to keep learning what comes next.
