What Are Your Clients Getting Ready For?

What Are Your Clients Getting Ready For?

Festive season makeup conversations often begin with a plan already in motion.

A Christmas party next weekend. A summer holiday coming up. A gift still to find. A client who wants to do something a little different for an end-of-year celebration.

For a Jane Iredale® stockist, these moments give you a useful place to begin. Before thinking about individual products, find out what your client is getting ready for. The occasion can tell you how much time they have, what they feel comfortable wearing and what they’re hoping to create.

From there, shade and product recommendations become part of a much more natural conversation.

Start with where they’re going

A wedding, Christmas party or end-of-year celebration can be the perfect reason for a client to explore makeup beyond their usual routine.

Ask what they’re wearing and how they want to feel on the day. They may be drawn to stronger eye definition, a different lip colour or a little more finish through the complexion. Another client may simply want their everyday makeup to feel special enough for the occasion.

This is also an opportunity to make the recommendation practical. Talk through where each addition fits into their existing routine and, where appropriate, let them practise an application step themselves.

They leave with an idea they can picture wearing, and a clearer sense of how to recreate it when they’re getting ready.

Pack around the holiday plans

A summer makeup bag becomes much easier to edit when you know what the holiday actually looks like.

Think through the days together. Perhaps there are relaxed mornings, lunches by the water and a few evenings out. Which pieces will the client enjoy reaching for across those different plans? Which application steps already feel easy and familiar?

The aim is a useful holiday edit built around the way they’ll spend their time.

That conversation may also uncover a product or shade they’ve been meaning to try, giving them time to become familiar with it before they travel.

Make gifting easier

A client shopping for someone else may arrive with only a few clues: they love makeup, they have a particular style, or there’s a colour they seem to wear all the time.

Those clues are valuable.

Ask what the buyer knows about the recipient. Do they enjoy experimenting with colour? Is their makeup usually subtle? Is the buyer looking for one beautiful piece or something that creates a broader gifting moment?

Then keep the choice focused. A small number of well-explained options gives the buyer something useful to compare without turning the experience into a tour of the entire range.

Where shade or personal preference is especially important, explain what will help the recipient choose well.

Keep simplicity beautiful

Festive makeup doesn’t need to mean a completely new routine.

For the client who usually wears very little, one new element can be enough to change how their makeup feels for an occasion. It might be a different lip, added definition around the eyes or a complexion step that helps bring the finished look together.

Start with what they already enjoy wearing and build from there.

A recommendation feels much more approachable when the client can immediately see where it belongs in their existing routine.

Help the last-minute shopper decide

December has plenty of clients arriving with a very short runway.

Their event may be tomorrow. They might be shopping between appointments. Christmas may suddenly feel much closer than expected.

In these moments, a few well-chosen questions can do a lot of work.

For an event, find out what they’re wearing, what makeup they already use and which part of the look they’d most like help with. For a gift, establish who they’re buying for and what they know about their style.

Then narrow the field.

Two or three relevant options, with a clear explanation of how they differ, can make the decision feel remarkably easy.

A quick festive consultation guide
The occasion A useful place to start
Party, wedding or celebration What are you wearing, and is there anything you’d like to do differently with your makeup?
Summer holiday What will your days and evenings look like while you’re away?
Gift shopping What do you know about how they usually wear makeup?
Simple occasion makeup Which parts of your current routine do you already enjoy?
Last-minute shopping What matters most for the event or gift today?

Let the occasion lead

The festive season brings plenty of reasons for clients to think about makeup differently.

A party creates room to experiment. A holiday encourages an edit. Gifting starts with understanding another person’s tastes. A simple occasion look can begin with a single change.

Starting with that context gives every recommendation somewhere to belong.

And for the client, that can turn choosing makeup into one of the enjoyable parts of getting ready.
